The 2025 NFL Draft is finally over and with that, the Dallas Cowboys are turning the page to OTAs and offseason workouts. But the front office and coaching staff still have plenty of questions to answer.
Some of them will go a long way in determining if the Cowboys are sitting in the couch next January or if they find their way back into the playoffs.
Let's dive in.
1. Who will be WR2 for Dak Prescott and offense?
The Cowboys had a pretty decent NFL Draft but none of that matters until this question is answered. The front office has gone on record saying they believe their receivers have upside but upside isn't what they need. They need someone who can line up Week 1.
Barring a trade—the Cowboys engaged in discussions to trade for an AFC North wide receiver—free agents Keenan Allen and Amari Cooper are the best options. They must do something, otherwise the offense is in trouble. CeeDee Lamb needs help. Get him some.
2. Who will spearhead RB by committee?
Speaking of trouble, the Cowboys added two running backs in Day 3 of the Draft but it remains unclear how they'll go about it. That will likely be the case until the pads come on in Oxnard.
"The strange thing about the running back position is you really don’t find out about them until you get out to Oxnard and put the pads on," Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer said post-draft. "Running around out there in shorts is a little different than running through a 330-pound defensive lineman sticking their arms out, or linebackers filling holes and blitzing through the A-gap and things like that."
Don't be surprised if the answer to who starts is a combination of rookies in Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah, who Schottenheimer believes to have a chance at the starting role.
3. Will Tyler Smith stay at LG?
Though the Cowboys remain open to playing Smith at tackle following Tyler Guyton's struggles as a rookie, I'd be surprised if they do. Smith has been All-Pro caliber when playing inside and switching his position over and over again would likely harm his development.
With that being said, if Guyton's struggles persist, the decision will become a very interesting one. Considering right tackle Terence Steele must also prove himself in pass pro once again, there are multiple scenarios where Smith could be kicked back outside.
