Brandon Aubrey drops a quote that makes epic 64-yard field goal even better following Dallas Cowboys’ win over Giants
The Dallas Cowboys kicker has more than just confidence.
Despite how easy Brandon Aubrey makes it look, kicking a 64-yard field goal is no easy task. But the Dallas Cowboys’ kicker was up for the task to tie the game 37-37 against the New York Giants on Sunday.
Later on, it was a 46-yarder for the win, securing the team’s first victory of the 2025 NFL season and No. 1 of the Brian Schottenheimer era. Aubrey probably didn’t even break a sweat. After the game, he talked to reporters about his process to stay calm under duress.
“I just talk to myself, it’s going through breathing exercises, and just reminding myself I’m made for this moment, that I believe I’m the best kicker in this league,” Aubrey told reporters. “There’s no better spot to be; it’s an opportunity. Go have fun.”
Aubrey’s confidence is exactly what makes him such a dangerous weapon for the Cowboys. And it’s the kind of attitude that makes you enjoy a play even more after it happens.
Aubrey’s leg strength complements his mental fortitude
Aubrey’s mental fortitude isn’t the only reason why he’s clutch in such high-stakes moments. His strong leg is, too. Schottenheimer was so confident in Aubrey’s range that he didn’t even try to make it easier on him by throwing one play before the 64-yard attempt. Instead, the Dallas offense ran the ball for a three-yard gain to set up in Aubrey’s preferred hashmark.
Aubrey’s 64-yard field goal makes NFL history in a unique way. He now has two field goals of 64 yards or longer. The rest of the league has two, per ESPN’s Ed Werder.
Aubrey must be signed to a contract extension now
Aubrey is right about being the best kicker in the NFL. The Cowboys must address the fact that he’s set to become a restricted free agent next year. That means it will be relatively easy for the front office to secure him next offseason, but the best course of action would be to secure him for the long term. He’s proven his worth.
The team has signed Jake Ferguson, DaRon Bland, and Tyler Smith in the last couple of months. It’s time to recognize Aubrey for his play.
