The latest CeeDee Lamb injury update is a massive one for the Dallas Cowboys ahead of Vikings matchup
The Dallas Cowboys need CeeDee Lamb back on the field for Week 15. Things are looking good.
Everything appears to be on track for the Dallas Cowboys and All-Pro wide receiver CeeDee Lamb ahead of Week 15.
Lamb entered the concussion protocol during the Cowboys’ Week 14 loss to the Detroit Lions, and his status remains one of the top storylines ahead of Sunday Night Football. After all, the Cowboys will need their best wide receiver against the Minnesota Vikings’ dangerous pass defense. Let’s dive into the latest surrounding the Cowboys’ star wide receiver.
Latest CeeDee Lamb injury update
On Wednesday, head coach Brian Schottenheimer provided an important update on Lamb right before the team’s first practice.
“CeeDee is progressing nicely through the process, the protocol,” Schottenheimer said. “He has two more things he’s gotta get done, but I feel good about that.”
Clearly, the Cowboys appear optimistic about Lamb’s chances of playing on Sunday. Based on Wednesday’s practice, you should be as well. The final two steps of the NFL’s return-to-play protocol are club-based non-contact drills, and full football activity. Clearance requires an Independent Neurological Consultant to examine the player.
Lamb was spotted at practiced suited up and going through drills, signaling that he’s currently at Phase 4 of 5 of the return-to-play protocol, which is a massive update. Though it’s challenging for NFL players to return from one week to another due to a concussion due to how the return-to-play protocol is set up, Lamb is benefitting from a long week and is seemingly trending toward playing.
Lamb will likely be listed as a limited participant when the injury report comes out. We probably won’t receive confirmation on Lamb’s status until late in the week, but things are off to a promising start.
Lamb’s status will have huge impact vs Vikings
The Vikings enter Week 15 ranked as the sixth-best pass defense in EPA/play, per RBSDM. Brian Flores’ unit can generate pressure at a high rate with or without blitzing while playing “safe” zone coverage in the backend.
For Dak Prescott’s offense, it will naturally be easier to deal with such a good unit if Lamb is on the field. Prior to being ruled out due to a concussion last week, Lamb had six catches for 121 yards against the Lions. The week before, he had 112 yards against the Kansas City Chiefs, many of which came against CB Trent McDuffie, one of the best in the league.
With the Vikings playing split-field coverages as much as they do, having both Lamb and George Pickens will be crucial, as it will be relatively easy for them to bracket at least one.
Tyler Guyton headlines other injury news
Beyond Lamb, the Cowboys’ week started with plenty of important injury news. Here are the most important notes:
- LT Tyler Guyton—who has missed back-to-back games—was working on the resistance chords, per Tommy Yarrish. Schottenheimer said the Cowboys plan to evaluate his progress this week before making a decision on his status.
- CB Trevon Diggs was a participant in practice, but Schottenheimer mentioned the Cowboys need to see consistency in his play before activating him to the 53-man roster.
- DE Jadeveon Clowney returned to practice after being a gametime decision for the Cowboys last week.
- S Malik Hooker wasn’t spotted at practice, per Joseph Hoyt.
