Cowboys Player Profile: Newly signed UFL player Chris Glaser has serious roster chances, and he could play an important role

The Dallas Cowboys have shown they’re willing to take chances on players coming from spring league football. Here’s why you should buy some stock on the newly signed offensive lineman Chris Glaser.

It’s always difficult to know if a signing off of the UFL has serious chances to make it in the NFL. With the Dallas Cowboys, it’s a little bit different.

KaVontae Turpin and Brandon Aubrey, both signed off of spring league football, have become special teams cornerstones. Last year, defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey made the initial 53-man roster after a standout preseason. This year, after the Cowboys made multiple UFL signings, there’s one name who stands out.

Offensive lineman Chris Glaser, 26 years old, had a brief stint on the Cowboys practice squad in 2023. But now, he has a chance to emerge as a crucial backup.

Glaser can be the Cowboys backup at center

Glaser’s signing came in the heels of Matt Hennessy being placed on Injured Reserve. Before undergoing neck surgery, Hennessy was the projected backup at center behind Cooper Beebe. Now that there’s a void at that spot, there aren’t a lot of candidates to fill it.

Trevor Keegan is an option but he struggled snapping the football for the Philadelphia Eagles. T.J. Bass took some practice reps at center as an emergency option last year but the Cowboys likely applied a second-round tender on him because of how he can play as a swing guard, not to be a backup center.

If Glaser shows he has what it takes to execute the Cowboys’ varied run game and solid pass protection, he could wind up as the team’s No. 2 at center behind Beebe.

Roster chances

Because he could be the best option for this specific role, I’d set Glaser’s roster chances very high. Right now, it seems like he has one man to beat and that is Trevor Keegan. However, there’s little we can know for sure given the lack of live contact practices in the offseason.

The Cowboys report to training camp in Oxnard, California on July 28. Shortly after that, the pads will come on and offensive line battles will kick off in full form. Glaser will be a key name to keep a close eye on.
