The Dallas Cowboys just threw a big curveball ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft

The Dallas Cowboys weren’t expected to be interested in Tennessee cornerback Jermod McCoy. But the latest pre-draft intel might have changed all that.

Well, well, well. The Dallas Cowboys may be changing their minds on one of the top defensive prospects of the 2026 NFL Draft. Or maybe we were just wrong about their stance all along.

You see, since the NFL Scouting Combine, multiple reporters had suggested the Cowboys were out on Tennessee cornerback Jermod McCoy—the Top 15 prospect who opted out of the 2025 season after a torn ACL injury.

But there’s no denying Dallas is at least looking into the possibility of drafting him.

Cowboys to host McCoy to a pre-draft visit

According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, the Cowboys will host McCoy on a Top 30 visit next week.

Firstly, a disclaimer: Though they’re commonly known as “Top 30” visits, hosting a player to one isn’t necessarily a sign that he’s viewed as a Top 30 prospect, nor does it automatically imply the team will draft him. Sometimes teams will even use them to learn about a player who could play for a rival.

But for the most part, they’re used to find out about a prospect the team likes on film. And in this case, the Cowboys hosting McCoy matters plenty. Multiple insiders have insisted the Cowboys are out on McCoy, but this update indicates they’d be willing to draft him if the medicals check out.

The front office is also hosting other first-round cornerback prospects such as Mansoor Delane (LSU) and Chris Johnson (San Diego State). Before reports emerged on McCoy being among the visitors, it appeared early reports were being confirmed.

Now, the mystery is back.

Do the Cowboys consider taking McCoy even though he didn’t play in 2025? Is his 4.38-second 40-yard dash enough to make him draftable? And do they consider him even with other premium defenders on the board?

We’ll find out soon enough.
