Football is a physical sport. And I’ve always believed there’s a very popular guilty pleasure among NFL fans: training camp skirmishes.

They always go viral when they hit social media and you can’t look away. But that’s one thing. A completely different thing is to fight six different times in the same joint practice. That’s what happened between the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints on Tuesday.

And you can bet head coach Brian Schottenheimer won’t be happy about it.

Cowboys, Saints get into multiple fights

In the clip below, you can see the sixth fight between the Cowboys and Saints on Tuesday, thanks to reporter Joseph Hoyt from the Dallas Morning News. In it, a Saints players wearing No. 89* tries to rip the helmet off of cornerback Caelen Carson.

After Cowboys safety Jalen Thompson tries to intervene, the same Saints player takes Thompson from behind and slams him to the ground. Multiple players are seen throwing punches.

*Note: Some Saints players wore different numbers as Saints head coach Kellen Moore knew there would be people watching, per Calvin Watkins.

Dak Prescott seen unhappy

In a seemingly related clip, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is seen pointing and talking to the Saints defensive huddle. He later walks up to a Saints player and does a punching gesture while pointing back to New Orleans players.

Donovan Ezeiruaku involved

In another one of the fights, Cowboys pass rusher Donovan Ezeiruaku is captured throwing multiple punches by Fort Worth Star-Telegram‘s Nick Harris. Though it may be unfair to single him out, it seems particularly relevant. Earlier in camp, Schottenheimer had a “long talk” with Ezeiruaku after kicking him out of practice for throwing a punch.

I get it’s the heat of the moment and it’s not easy to back down. But you can see a long time happen while Ezeiruaku squares up to the Saints O-lineman before throwing the punch. Heck, he’s looking for an opening earlier in the clip. The shoving I get, but there’s no place for this.

At the end of the day, no team in the NFL had more penalties called against than the Cowboys in 2025. To be fair, it’s not all on Dallas. The Saints play a big part on this (the Cowboys did not have a practice like this against the Rams last week), sure.

But Schottenheimer’s team chooses how it responds. We’ll see what the Cowboys coach says about it after practice but I can guarantee you he won’t be praising his team for this one.
