Dallas Cowboys safety Markquese Bell was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and marijuana, ESPN‘s Todd Archer reported Saturday morning. You can find more details below.
- The arrest happened on Friday by Prosper, Texas police.
- The possession of a controlled substance is a felony, while marijuana possession is a misdemeanor.
Could Markquese Bell be suspended?
The short answer is yes, but it will be up to the NFL’s investigation assuming the league opens one.
“Any time the league becomes aware of conduct that may violate the policy, it will undertake an investigation conducted by the NFL Special Counsel for Investigations and Conduct, who will oversee the NFL’s investigatory procedures and issue initial
discipline for violations of the policy,” reads the league’s documentation.
The league can (and likely will) review the situation under its personal conduct policy. An investigation could take time and it won’t necessarily end in a suspension.
More on Markquese Bell
Bell is set to enter his fifth season in the NFL after going from being an undrafted free agent in 2022 to signing a $9 million contract extension last year.
In 2023, Bell started eight games after he moved to linebacker due to multiple injuries at the position. Since then, Bell has started only three games in the last two years. In 17 games played last year, Bell logged an interception, three pass deflections, and one forced fumble.
Most notably, Bell played in 63% of the Cowboys’ special teams snaps.
Ahead of the 2026 season, Bell is considered an in-house candidate to take on a “big nickel” role on new Cowboys defensive coordinator Christian Parker’s scheme.
