The ultimate revenge game? Dallas Cowboys’ 2026 rivalry matchup has 3 big-name individuals seeking payback

Revenge games are a well-known thing in the NFL world, especially when it comes to the schedule release. This may be the top one of the Dallas Cowboys 2026 regular season.

One of the most fun aspects of an NFL schedule is seeking for “Revenge Games.” You know, those matchups where a player gets to face a former team, most often because he was released or traded.

Well, the Dallas Cowboys have one of those but taken to the next level.

When they take on the San Francisco 49e:rs, it will be three big-name individuals seeking payback of their former team. Two of them, against Dallas, and one against San Fran. Let’s dive in.

DT Osa Odighizuwa

Odighizuwa himself showed his excitement about the rivalry matchup earlier in the week, noting that he’s now on the other side of it. He more than anyone should be motivated to beat the Cowboys.

They traded him shortly after signing him to an $80 million deal despite Odighizuwa taking less money to remain in Dallas instead of joining the Washington Commanders. He remains one of the best pass rushing defensive tackles in the league and though the Cowboys are better off with Quinnen Williams leading the defensive tackle room, Odighizuwa will be a headache come Week 10.

LB Dee Winters

Though not anywhere close to Odighizuwa in terms of financials, Winters did start 17 games for the 49ers last year. San Francisco still turned around and traded him for a fifth-round pick in April.

That has to fire up Winters, who is projected to start 17 games at linebacker yet again. The Cowboys badly need him to step up in Christian Parker’s scheme. Being that Dallas has no proven middle linebacker on the roster, it may be up to him to add green dot responsibilities, as well.

Matt Eberflus

Not a player but a coach for this one. Eberflus lasted one season on the job as the Cowboys defensive coordinator in 2025. And while he was undeniable responsible for many of the defense’s shortcomings, it’s only fair to point out he wasn’t given much to work with.

Even the Cowboys front office admitted it failed in building a defense for last season. They traded Micah Parsons a week before the regular season, well after the scheme was built.

It was a tough hand, and now Eberflus is out to clean up his reputation. A big game against the Cowboys’ high-powered offense could be a great way to do so.

Others to watch

Though not the biggest of names, the following roster bubble players would also be playing a “revenge game” of sorts if they earn roster spots ahead of the Week 10 showdown:

  • OG Robert Jones: Previously with Cowboys, now with 49ers
  • LB Curtis Robinson: Previously with 49ers, now with Cowboys
  • OL Matt Hennessy: Previously with 49ers, now with Cowboys
