The Denver Broncos received some fun, but also kind of strange, news on Tuesday when it was announced the team will open the season against the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football.

The weird part of the announcement centers around the fact the NFL has yet to assign a location for the game. Personally, I can’t recall another situation like this and I’ve been following the league basically all of my life. Either way, both Broncos and Chiefs fans are waiting in suspense for the last detail of the announcement.

NFL Network’s Kyle Brandt makes a bulletproof argument in favor of the Broncos over the Chiefs

Count Brandt as a very strong proponent of this game being played in Mile High Stadium and he expressed as much on Tuesday morning.

“That game better be in Denver,” Brandt vigorously exclaimed during the latest episode of Good Morning Football. “Denver beat the Chiefs twice last year. Denver’s the champs. I love the pageantry of Arrowhead and the Sea of Red, but we’ve done that for years. This game better be in Denver.

“They have not announced where it’s going to be, but it should be in the Denver Broncos stadium [because] they deserve it.”

“Let’s not just give it to Arrowhead because there’s been so many great games over the past decade or so and [Patrick] Mahomes is a huge story, here,” he later continued.

“The Broncos are the AFC West champs. The Broncos beat the Chiefs twice [and] were in the [AFC] title game. They deserve to have the home game.”

It’s impossible to argue against that in a logical manner. There’s another big reason why this game should be played in Denver and his name is Bo Nix.

Broncos QB Bo Nix will be ready for training camp

Nix has been recovering from the broken ankle he suffered during the Broncos’ division win over the Buffalo Bills and there was a recent scare when people learned of a second procedure.

That was expected, though, per Sean Payton, and the Broncos head coach recently gave a very encouraging update regarding Nix’s status.

“[Nix]’s doing great. He’ll be well ahead of time for training camp,” Payton told reporters during Broncos rookie minicamp. “I think there’s a good chance we see him in this offseason program in June. We’re gonna be the ones kind of holding him back.”

So, the NFL now has another reason to play this game in Denver. It would be different if Nix’s trajectory was a lot less clear, but that’s not the case. He’ll be more than ready for Week 1, so the league doesn’t have to worry about Jarrett Stidham trotting onto the field.

There’s also Chiefs fatigue among many NFL fans to account for. Regardless, there’s every reason in the world to have the Broncos host this game. It’ll be a big mistake by the NFL if it doesn’t happen, as well.
