The Denver Broncos were one game away from making the Super Bowl. And in that game, playing with backup QB Jarrett Stidham, they still had a chance at a win. Just think: With Bo Nix, we could be talking about this team as the defending AFC Champions.

But life is all about ifs and buts. Now, it’s just about trying to do it all over again, and some of it. To do that, they need Nix to be healthy. He broke his ankle during their game against the Buffalo Bills, and is now expected to be ready for training camp, per head coach Sean Payton. His offseason has gone well thus far, and while Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is getting praise for his miraculous recovery, Nix has quietly been getting close.

“[I had] the first [operation] obviously right after the season,” Nix told reporters on Tuesday. “Non-weight-bearing for a couple of weeks, get back going. [I] felt pretty good, was still having a little bit of an issue with bone spurs. What we did was—even though I probably could’ve gone again and [played] the whole season again—it was just aggravating me for too long. So what we did was, since I was a little bit ahead, thought it best to go ahead and decompress it a little bit. Then [I] still had plenty of time to get back for the summer and to prepare for the season.”

Broncos need Bo Nix at his best to try to replicate 2025

We have spent a ton of time talking about what could have been last season. This roster and the moves the Broncos made in the offseason have given the fan base reason to believe that they can get back to where they were. But, the reality is, none of that even matters if Nix isn’t feeling himself. Luckily, he seems to be doing great.

“[I] feel really good where I’m at,” Nix said. “I’m actually sort of glad we got it all out of the way, don’t have to do it in the years to come. Football is a physical game, so there’s no telling what will come up. For right now, I feel really good about the steps we’re making and am going to be just fine for the season.”

Nix finished with nearly 4,000 passing yards, 25 passing TDs, and 11 interceptions. He also finished with 356 rushing yards and five rushing TDs. He’s no top-five QB in the league, but he knows how to win football games. And, he’s already throwing to his new weapon, Jaylen Waddle, and building that chemistry. Denver appears to be doing just fine, as does Nix.
