Here’s one I never thought I’d write. Being a tabloid or entertainment type reporter was never something I strived to be, but this bit of news is something that could have an affect on the Detroit Lions’ future plans. Za’Darius Smith and Detroit area rapper Kash Doll have broken up, per the rapper and the edge rusher’s social media.

Look, this is no guarantee. Smith might still want to play in Detroit, regardless of this, and you’d totally understand. This is a chance to win a Super Bowl. With that said, your famous girlfriend being from the area would certainly be a big enough reason to want to stay in town, right? Now that reason is gone. Would you blame Smith for being human and not wanting to come back to Detroit? I don’t know if I would. Then again, I’ve been with the same woman for 22 years and haven’t really experienced a breakup that wasn’t in high school. So what do I know?

The last update we got on Simth and the Lions was last week, when Lions GM Brad Holmes went on 97.1 The Ticket and talked about how there were two sides to what was holding the deal up. He said Smith had expectations of what a deal looked like, and the Lions had their expectations, too. There was also some allusion to the idea that Smith may be waiting until the end of training camp or after it.

We’re going to see in the next few weeks what happens, but this was a big enough deal to bring up and make someone wonder if it has any impact. Consider this my resume for People Magazine if things don’t work out in the sports world.
