Detroit Lions Mailbag: Should the Lions trade Hendon Hooker for Bryce Young?

Welcome back to another Detroit Lions mailbag. We have maybe the most questions ever, so I'm not wasting anytime now. Let's get right into it.

It's hard to pick out one culprit here. The big problem is really just getting stopped in the red zone. The Lions have no trouble getting there. They lead the league in red zone attempts right now. They need to just draw up the right stuff and once they do, we're talking about a team that's going to put up a ton of points this season.

That's a big question there. The Panthers may have just benched their first overall pick from last year, but I don't think they're done with him yet. He needs a little time to just sit and figure things out. In terms of the player, the only thing I really like about Young over Hooker is that Young is, well, young.

Still, Hooker has showed me more than what Young has shown. I think Hooker has the better arm and can scramble a littler better too. Plus he has the size. So I wouldn't make this move personally. I do wonder what happens with Young though. This is another example of how hard it is to draft a new starting quarterback.

This will be the Lions first mobile QB test of the year. DJ Reader is really the big key here I think. He's going to bring some pressure up the middle and take a couple linemen with him. That should open things up for the Lions to set the edge better and make sure Murray has a hard time escaping the pocket.

You hope it goes down that way, but sometimes these mobile guys are just plain hard to stop. With that being said, we haven't seen Murray be the most mobile guy in the league. He can do it, but he doesn't do it a lot like a Justin Fields might.

Absolutely. What we're seeing Hutchinson do out there right now is pretty special. He's leading the league in pressures and sacks and he's just been unstoppable. If he can keep going at this pace, we could be talking about a 20 plus sack season for him.

He's already in the conversation, I don't see him leaving it.

I'm seeing this one a lot. The Lions went into this game expecting Tampa to stop them on the ground like they did last year. The Lions couldn't get the run game going in the first game and then they ran it just 15 times in the playoffs. This is a hard team to run against.

Once the Bucs lost Vea, the Lions did start to run more. They weren't getting much going before that though. I would look for them to get back to the ground game against the Cardinals this Sunday. Last week was just the game plan.

I wouldn't say that. The chemistry is there and he's trying to get the ball to him becasue we all know what he can do with that speed. If he was trying to force anything, it was with St. Brown last Sunday. He threw the ball to him 19 times in that game. That's a lot for one player.

I think Goff was just trying to find anything that worked in that game and a lot of it did until it came time to throw in the red zone.

It was a really big mistake. Reynolds caught 40 passes last year and 32 of them were for first downs. He added an element to this offense that they don't currently have. He was one more guy to worry about and he opened things up for everyone.

The Lions may be able to replace that with Tim Patrick very soon. He looked good in that first game and now the Lions want to start utilizing him even more. Patrick has something that Reynolds didn't really have and that's the ability to separate and go up and get it. If that works out, then everything is copasetic.

I tried to warn Lions fans on this one. LaPorta had a huge rookie season for a tight end and every guy that's done that at his position had a sophomore slump the next year. Things will pick back up, but the word is out on LaPorta and defenses are going to pay a lot more attention to him now.

I think it was just a combination of impatience and frustration. He was really trying to make something happen there and a lot of times when you try to force it, bad things happen. In this case he threw it into a crowd of Bucs defenders and it cost the Lions a shot at a touchdown. That's easy stuff to fix, simply don't do that again.

Wow man, I don't really know if I'm qualified to answer this one. Perhaps seek some sanctuary at a local church or maybe meditate? I don't know. It's going to be ok though.
