The trade deadline is over, but the Detroit Lions’ questions never stop. Let’s answer some of them.

Have the Lions reached their ceiling with Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes?

This is nowhere near on my mind or the mind of the Detroit Lions. There really hasn’t been a regression. A lot of this is just the people feeling the way they feel because the Lions just lost a game, and they didn’t make a big trade. It’s just not a real feeling.

Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes are not the guys before the guys; they are the guys. This team has not reached its ceiling yet. They’re still very much a Super Bowl-contending team. With these guys, the window is always open.

As for the drafts, Lions fans got so spoiled that they think every draft is supposed to have All-Pros in it. That’s not how it works anymore. The drafts are no longer about finding starters right now; they’re about finding starters for later and developing players. They’ve found some really good talent with Terrion Arnold, Ennis Rakestraw, Sione Vaki, Tyleik Williams, Tate Ratledge, and Isaac TeSlaa. These guys are going to be big parts of this team going forward. Not everyone is just getting thrown out there day one anymore, and that’s a good thing.

So, to be definitive, the window is open, the drafts are still good, Campbell and Holmes aren’t going anywhere.

When is Ahmed Hassanein coming back?

According to Justin Rogers of Detroit Football Network, Hassanein could be back as early as this week or next week. He recently took to his Instagram with a picture of him walking into Ford Field with a caption that said “soon.”

Is it John Morton or is it the offensive line?

It’s a little of both on every front. Morton has some things that he really wants to get going, but he just hasn’t been able to do it. Part of that is the Lions struggling with their offensive line not growing as well as they might have hoped. But other parts of it are that Morton doesn’t seem to be adjusting well in-game, and it turns into a Matt Patricia-type thing where he’s hoping that if he keeps doing it, it’ll just magically start working out. That sort of thing rarely works. So some adjustments need to be made, and if they are, the Lions will be fine.

Should the Lions move Tate Ratledge to center right now?

Dan Campbell already ruled out that possibility early this week, but I personally think the route they should go is to have Glasgow move to left guard and then start Kinglsey Eguakun at center. I think that route pays off well because you get a guy in there who’s played center his whole football career and has worked with the first team during training camp.

What move should the Lions have made at the trade deadline?

What moves should they have made? And why is it OL?

I would have liked to have seen the Lions add some help at the edge rusher spot. I thought Arden Key would have been a nice addition to the rotation, and he fit the financials, too. Offensive line would have been cool, but it’s not realistic. There have been eight offensive linemen traded at the trade deadline since 2002. It’s hard to reload at the offensive line, and that’s why teams don’t want to trade good players at positions that are hard to reload at.
