It would be a huge shock if the Lions don't trade for a receiver during camp, here's why

Yes, I know I talk about this a lot, but it's a fluid situation and I think Lions fans and the Detroit Lions themselves are starting to really see the problem. The Lions really need help with their receiving corps and they could be about to make a move. Here's why:
For starters, Lions GM Brad Holmes has already talked about adding receiver during training camp when he was asked about it in May.
"That’s not saying that we won’t add. That’s a position that, especially when you get into camp, those guys put a lot of yardage on the field,” Holmes said. “So you always gotta at some point, you need to add a guy here or there when some attrition comes."
The next thing is that right now you can really only guarantee that three receivers are making this team Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams and Kalif Raymond. There's giant question marks beyond that and we're starting to get some answers on that.
Donovan Peoples-Jones is really struggling out there and he's been relegated down the depth chart because of it. He's likely to be cut. Antoine Green didn't have the best reviews going into camp and now that we're here, you can see just how unready he is for a bigger role.
Then there's Daurice Fountian who has looked good during camp and has been working in that WR3 spot, but Lions' head coach Dan Campbell's comments and the actions after those comments are kind of telling.
"Fountain makes plays. He's making some plays. Like you see the one on one, he makes a big high catch. I think we all are intrigued by Fountain. And I said that a few days ago, we need to see more out of him. We need to see more. It's got to show up. He needs to be detailed in everything he does, man he's got an unbelievable opportunity here and he knows that. We got to see it."
That was last week. Now this week the Lions are trying other receivers at the WR3 spot and Fountain is having quiet days. That says that nobody is pulling ahead here and that the Lions are having trouble finding a guy to be that WR3. Fountain, Kaden Davis and Maurice Alexander may have a chance to make the Lions roster, but nobody is making a super firm case to be the Lions third starter.
You would think Raymond could be in that spot, but Raymond just isn't the right guy for there because Jameson Williams and Jahmyr Gibbs are already doing what Raymond specializes in and they have starting roles already. The Lions need that big bodied guy and that's why they keep trying big bodied guys in that spot.
So what do the Lions do? There's really only one thing they can do and that's make a trade and make it soon. There are no free agent options out there. Now the Lions are sort of in a corner with all of this and they have to fight their way out of it.
They don't need to go after a superstar. Trading for Brandon Aiyuk is off the table, although some of Brad Holmes' recent comments make it seem like they will splurge on big name talent in due time. The Lions just need a reliable player that another team is willing to trade. Maybe someone they just spent a week looking at in New York. There's been a lot of Darius Slayton trade rumors out there. The Lions would be a good landing spot for him.
Whatever the Lions do, they have to make sure they do something. There was too much confidence in what the team had and the Lions made a mistake by not grabbing a receiver. There's still time to fix that mistake.
