Just last week we talked about the idea that the Detroit Lions had a head coaching candidate on their sideline that nobody was talking about becasue all the attention goes to Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn. That's assistant head coach and running back coach Scottie Montgomery.

It looks like the ball is beginning to roll in the direction of Montgomery getting a head coaching job at some point. He'll be attending to the NFL's Coaching Accelerator Program in Nashville next week.

Per the NFL, the coaching accelerator is designed "to increase exposure between owners, executives, and diverse coaching talent, providing ample opportunity to develop and build upon their relationships."

Teams nominate which candidates they want to send. Last year the Lions sent Aaron Glenn and Ray Agnew to the accelerator. This year they're sending Montgomery.

The program has already helped some candidates get new opportunities. For example, Titans GM Ran Carthon attended in 2022 when he was a member of the 49ers front office. Aubrey Pleasant went for the Rams last year and he just got promoted to assistant head coach on Thursday. That's just a couple examples.

Essentially if your team sends you to this, it means they believe you have a future as a head coach or a general manager. Montgomery definitely has that. He is a name to watch next offseason when the coaching carousel starts going round and round.
