The Detroit Lions may have signed an edge last week when they brought back former seventh-round pick Pat O’Connor, but their search for edge help continues with the team hosting a veteran and former starter for a workout.

Carlos Watkins worked out for the Lions recently and he has a favorable past that could help him land a spot. The former fourth-round pick started for the Houston Texans in 2020 and then signed with the Cowboys and started the 2021 season for them. Watkins returned to the Cowboys in 2022 but wound up the odd man out on their 53-man roster. He was elevated and started four games that year.

Last season he signed with the Cardinals and was a starter until he suffered a bicep injury in Week 2 and had to have season ending surgery to repair it.

We’ll see where things go with that. The Lions are probably unlikely to make any roster moves until after their trip to New York.

The Lions also worked out former Phil Steele FCS Offensive Lineman of the Year award winner Mark Evans.

Evans went undrafted out of Arkansas-Pine Bluff last season but spent the season on the Saints practice squad. They signed him to a futures deal at the end of the year but waived him last week.
