Well here's an interesting one. A few weeks back former Detroit Lions' quarterback Teddy Bridgewater coached his former high school to a Florida state championship. He then went on the NFL's Insiders show and said he plans to come out of retirement and sign with an NFL team soon. We now know that he's signing with the Lions.

Bridgewater was a big part of the Lions' success in 2023 because he took on something of a player/coach role with the team. Multiple players including Hendon Hooker and Jameson Williams credited Bridgewater with their growth. Now that growth can continue with Bridgewater back on the team.

It's not yet known if Bridgewater will be on the 53-man roster or if he will take on one of the open practice squad spots, but we do know that the Lions felt during the offseason that Hooker wasn't quite ready to take the role on just yet. Having Bridgewater gives the Lions a quality backup quarterback.

It's that coaching ability that could have Bridgewater staying in Detroit for the foreseeable future but as a part of Dan Campbell's coaching staff. Not long ago we saw Shaun Dion Hamilton retire from the Lions and take on a coaching job. We also just saw David Blough retire from the Lions and become a coach for the Commanders. Bridgewater being on the Lions' staff is the next logical step for him.

This is a guy that was meant to be a coach in this league and this could be the start of that for him. The Dan Campbell coaching tree is a real thing and it's growing. Don't be shocked if Bridgewater is part of that growth.

The Miami Dolphins are waiving former All-Pro edge rusher Shaq Barrett from the reserve retired list.  Barrett signed with the Dolphins in the […]
