The 4 best undrafted rookies who are still out there and can help the Detroit Lions this summer, including one who was expected to be a day 2 pick

There are still some young players out there who can help the Lions this summer and maybe even have a shot to make the 53-man roster

The Detroit Lions don’t quite have 90 players yet. With the international player exemption they get for Ahmed Hassanein, they actually got a 91st roster spot. Right now, they have four roster openings.

Since the Lions might not be looking to fill any of those spots with veterans, there are still some undrafted players out there who are worth taking a look at. Here are four we’d go after.

Dontay Corleone, DT, Cincinnati

Look, I know why he wasn’t drafted. There were some concerns with his health and that scared teams away. Without them, Corleone was mocked as high as the second round in mocks before the draft. It’s a really big shocker that he hasn’t been signed to anyone yet. The Lions need some interior depth, and they were at least interested in him at one point during the pre-draft process.

Damarcus Lacey, WR, Marshall

I know the Lions are pretty set at receiver, but they haven’t stopped looking. They had two veterans just a couple of weeks ago. Lacey is someone who can come in and push Kendrick Law, Dominic Lovett, Jacob Saylors, and Greg Dortch for their spots as kick and punt returners. He’s also someone who can get involved in battles at both wide receiver and running back.

Michael Shimek, Edge, Ashland

The Division II defensive player of the year. Shimek had 70 tackles, 13 sacks, four forced fumbles, and six pass breakups. The Lions have shown in the recent past that they’re not afraid of grabbing D2 players or players from smaller schools. He’s worth taking a look at.

Patrick Payton, Edge, LSU

Payton did not have a great season at LSU last year, but he had four productive seasons at Florida State. Ideally, the Lions could sign him and get the Seminole version of him instead of the Tiger version.
