Earlier Tuesday morning, we talked about the possibility of the Detroit Lions getting into the trade market at a few different positions after some curious cuts. The big one was with tackle Dan Skipper, who has been the Lions’ swing tackle for the last few years. He had something of a rough summer, and the Lions released him on Monday.

So, it makes some sense that the Lions might get involved in the trade market to find their next swing tackle since Giovanni Manu is not ready to take that role yet. Plus, we don’t know if the Lions view Jamarco Jones as a viable replacement. One option just opened up, and the Lions just spent a week with him. We’re talking about Texans tackle Cam Robinson.

Robinson has, for the most part, been a career starter in the NFL, but as of late, he’s been on the downturn a bit. After seven years as the Jaguars’ starting left tackle, they traded him to the Vikings at the trade deadline last year. The Vikings opted not to bring him back, and he signed with the Texans. Now, it looks like he could be losing the potential starting job to the Texans’ second-round pick.

This is where the Lions could come in and get a major upgrade at swing tackle and secure some very strong depth at tackle. While Robinson might not be a starting-level guy anymore, he definitely brings solid play to the table and could be a big help for an offensive line that has dealt with injuries in the past.

Lions Hypothetical Trade for Cam Robinson

So what would a trade for Robinson look like? Here’s a proposal:

Lions get: Cam Robinson
Texans get: 2026 sixth-round pick

Last year, the Vikings sent a conditional fifth-round pick to the Jaguars that would turn into a fourth-round pick if Robinson got enough playing time. It’s unknown if the conditions were met. Either way, the Vikings didn’t keep him, and the Texans aren’t looking to either, so a sixth-rounder is a pretty good deal for all parties involved. A seventh might be a little too low.

We’ll see what happens in the coming days, but the Lions getting a look at Robinson last week at their own facility is a big deal. You could see how that could help them make a decision on a player, as they got to essentially work him out against their defensive line.
