The Detroit Lions got arguably the biggest win of their season last Thursday when they beat the Green Bay Packers at home. That win changed a lot in the NFC North and NFC races. Winning that game drastically improved the percentage the Lions have to win both things.

It all came off the back of a huge fourth-down conversion the Lions decided to go for on the Packers' 30-yard line instead of taking the field goal chance and then defending the Packers until the game was over or it went to overtime or the Packers scored a touchdown and won. The Lions converted the play, got the first down, and let the clock run down to hit the game winner.

We now know what led up to this thanks to former NFL players Richard Sherman and Andrew Whitworth. Both guys worked the game for Amazon Prime that night and they spoke with Lions quarterback Jared Goff off-air and here's what happened and what was said on the Lions' sideline

"He (Jared Goff) was having a conversation with Andrew Whitworth. Well, he's having a conversation with all of us. And Whit was like, 'hey, what was the conversation like on the sideline before that fourth and one?' Jared's summary is, Jared basically comes over and Dan's on the headset, you know, telling him, 'hey, we're kicking it, and just get the Field Goal team ready. We're gonna stand here. We're gonna talk it through, but we're gonna kick it.' And Jared, you know, dejected, is like, 'man, man! I want to go.' And Dan Campbell just looks at him and said, 'you want to do it? fuck it we're going for it."

There you go. This was not the initial plan the Lions had in this game. They were going to kick the field goal and it was Jared Goff who initiated the whole thing. Campbell being the player's coach that he is, went with his guys on this one and it paid off.

It kind of changes everything. It makes you look at Goff in a different light. If you ask me, this is MVP stuff from him. The guy knew his team could get that and they did despite him falling down. Hard to argue that this isn't Coach of the Year type stuff either. Campbell listened to his players and knew it was the right time to do that. He had confidence in his guys that confidence was felt by his players. Big stuff.
