Matt LaFleur drops hint that Packers may not be done yet as more roster moves could follow after the draft
Green Bay drafted six players in 2026, Brian Gutekunst’s smallest class as a general manager. That means more moves could be on the horizon.
The Green Bay Packers had an unusually small draft class this year. The team entered the process with eight picks, but finished it with six after two trades up — one in the third, another into the sixth round. While that’s in part just how the board shook out, it also opens the door for some post-draft moves.
“One thing we’ve shown, and Gutey has shown, is that our roster is by no means solidified at this moment,” head coach Matt LaFleur revealed in his post-draft press conference. “Things happen in this league. There are veterans available that you can potentially add, and we’re never out of the trade market. We’re always looking at different ways to add value to our football team.”
Last year, the Packers made two trades right before the season, acquiring edge defender Micah Parsons and offensive lineman Darian Kinnard.
Roster outlook
Even though LaFleur left the door open for roster movement, the front office addressed most of the team’s needs during the draft — which included taking two cornerbacks, Brandon Cisse in the second and Domani Jackson in the sixth round.
“We feel strong about the guys we already have in our program, but you can never add enough competition to bring out the best in everybody,” LaFleur added. “It was just the way it fell this year. We went into it with eight picks and ended up with six. There were a couple opportunities where we felt like we could move up and get players who can impact our team and our roster.”
Of the six picks, the Packers took four defensive players — beyond the two corners, the Packers drafted defensive tackle Chris McClellan and edge defender Dani Dennis-Sutton. The only offensive player was center/guard Jager Burton. The team closed out the process taking kicker Trey Smack, the first player of his position coming off the board in 2026.
