Colts are taking an outside the box approach, and it could help them land a diamond in the rough during the 2026 NFL Draft
The Indianapolis Colts are hosting the ultimate sleeper prospect in the 2026 NFL Draft, as they try to find a diamond in the rough to help out a position of need on their roster ahead of next season.
The Indianapolis Colts have multiple glaring holes on their roster that they need to fill. And they only have a limited number of selections in the 2026 NFL Draft.
To name a few, the team needs to improve the starters at edge, linebacker, wide receiver, and safety. The Colts only have two picks in the top 100. So the odds of filling all of those needs in the draft are slim.
This could lead them to take an outside-the-box approach to try to add to one of those position groups.
Colts hosting NAIA WR Kyle Dixon for a Top-30 pre-draft visit
ESPN’s Stephen Holder reports that the Colts are hosting a major sleeper wide receiver prospect. Not only is Kyle Dixon not a FBS product, but he isn’t coming from the NCAA ranks at all. Instead, he played in the NAIA this past season.
Dixon spent his last two seasons at Culver, a NAIA program. He’s recorded 143 receptions, 2,394 yards, and 24 touchdowns. This past year has been his best yet, finishing with 83 receptions, 1,282 yards, and 12 touchdowns.
He has solid size at 6-2, 215 lbs, and the testing numbers shared by Holder above are pretty impressive, headlined by a 40.5 vertical and a 10’11” broad jump.
A key thing to note about Dixon is that if he were to be drafted, it would almost certainly be a late-day three pick. This top-30 visit could be the Colts trying to get a head start on signing Dixon as an undrafted rookie free agent.
The Colts don’t have much depth at outside wide receiver at the moment. Alec Pierce is their top target in the room now, but the only other player who is a fit to play outside is Nick Westbrook-Ikhine. They need to add a starter, but also outside depth.
Dixon wouldn’t be the Colts’ swing to add a 2026 starter. He could be a player they think can compete for a depth spot as a rookie, though. We will have to wait and see how everything plays out, but he is definitely a name to watch ahead of the draft.
