Bill Belichick made an unexpected move this week.

The future Hall of Fame coach decided to give college football a try, accepting the head coaching job at the University of North Carolina.

And from one successful coach to another, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid sent a clear message when asked about this move, saying exactly what people need to hear.

“Listen, I think it’s great," he said. "(Bill Belichick) put himself in a position where he doesn’t owe anybody anything – It’s whatever he wants to do at this point in his career and I think he’s looking forward to it."

He's not wrong.

Belichick has won six Super Bowls as the Patriots head coach. So, it's still shocking how he wasn't hired after New England parted ways with him following the 2023 season. He only interviewed for the Atlanta Falcons job, but in the end, they went in another direction.

And Belichick wasn't willing to wait again for an NFL opportunity, when there was an exciting one already open and in front of him.

"I had a chance to talk with him the other day and he’s in a great place and that’s a great school on top of that and he’s hiring people that he’s worked with and are very good," Reid explained. "I look forward to seeing him do it. This’ll be fun.”

Belichick's legacy in the NFL is one to be celebrated, and he will now take his expertise to the college level.

Reid's final message is what many of us are thinking: watching a Belichick-led Tar Heels team next year will be very exciting.
