Preseason Week 2’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks did a number on the Kansas City Chiefs in terms of injuries. It’s not just the team’s cornerback depth that’s currently reeling from the losses, but the defensive line depth as well.

Speaking to media members ahead of practice on Monday, Chiefs HC Andy Reid gave the rundown on several players who weren’t participating as they begin their practice week for their preseason Week 3 game against the Chicago Bears on Friday. He also confirmed that a former first-round draft pick could be heading to injured reserve as a result of an injury he suffered in Seattle.

“As far as the injuries go, Felix (Anudike-Uzomah) strained that hamstring,” Reid began. “Most likely, he’s going to go on IR (injured reserve) here, so this evening or this afternoon. Jack Cochrane has a knee bone bruise. He won’t practice today. (Ethan) Driskell won’t practice. Mike Edwards has the hamstring strain, he won’t practice. Nazeeh Johnson had a shoulder strain. He won’t go today. Omarr (Norman-Lott) had the ankle sprain, and kind of re-hurt it or something of that sort, and then Jalen Royals has knee tendonitis, and he’ll be out. Other than that, everybody’s going, and this will be very similar to an in-season Wednesday practice now that we’re back here. It gives guys a dry run to see how the meeting schedule goes before an in-season game and also (how) practice goes.”

The most notable injury news here is that former 2023 first-round draft pick, Felix Anudike-Uzomah, could have his season end before it truly begins. If he’s placed on injured reserve before the roster cutdown date on Aug. 26, his 2025 NFL season would effectively be over heading into a pivotal year 3. This would be a significant setback for a player, who, to this point in his career, hasn’t lived up to his first-round draft status.

“Yeah, that’s a tough thing,” Reid said. “He’s worked hard. We’ll see where it goes. I can’t tell you how long it’s going to be. Any time is disappointing for him because he’s worked so hard.”

Anudike-Uzomah has appeared in 34 games with three starts across the past two seasons, recording eight tackles for loss, three sacks, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid did have one positive injury update to share

Not everything was doom and gloom on the injury front. According to Chiefs HC Andy Reid, WR Hollywood Brown is back at practice after missing time with a foot/ankle injury. He wouldn’t commit to Brown getting any playing time in preseason Week 3, but there is a chance based on his comments.

“Hollywood (Brown) did a little work yesterday,” Reid said. “Which was good. He’ll get a little bit more today. We’ll see. We’ll see how he progresses through this thing.”

Brown isn’t quite a full participant yet, as the team is acting out of an overabundance of caution. The last thing they want is for Brown to do too much too quickly, and then they find themselves in a situation where he’s not available for Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season.

“It’s not a matter of wanting to be out there,” Reid concluded. “He wants to do it. It’s just taking it slow. We just don’t want any setbacks with this thing going forward here.”
