Chiefs HC Andy Reid provides latest update on rookie LT Josh Simmons’ status ahead of Week 7 vs. the Raiders
Chiefs HC Andy Reid shared the latest on Josh Simmons ahead of Week 7 against the Raiders.
Update: Simmons was officially ruled out in the team’s Friday injury report.
Kansas City Chiefs HC Andy Reid gave reporters the latest update on rookie LT Josh Simmons’ status ahead of Week 7’s tilt with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Simmons did not participate in practice on Friday, marking the third consecutive practice missed. Even for the most veteran players in Kansas City, missing three straight practices typically means you won’t play in the upcoming game.
Reid’s latest update didn’t exactly bring Chiefs Kingdom any closer to the answers they’re looking for regarding Simmons’ mysterious absence, after he missed the team’s Week 6 game against the Detroit Lions. Although it likely confirmed that Simmons will not play on Sunday afternoon against the Raiders.
“Really, the only one who didn’t practice today was Josh (Simmons),” Reid said. “Still, excused with the family situation, so.”
Asked for clarification on the “family situation” comments, Reid changed his tune just a bit.
“Personal, yeah, personal,” Reid said.
When questioned about whether he knew if this would be a long-term thing yet, Reid gave a one-word answer.
“No.”
It looks like Jaylon Moore will be the Chiefs’ starting left tackle vs. the Raiders in Week 7
Expect that Simmons will be ruled out for Week 7 against the Las Vegas Raiders, which puts Jaylon Moore in line for his second consecutive start at the left tackle position. Earlier this week, Chiefs OC Matt Nagy spoke about what Moore brings, given what he accomplished in Week 6 against the Detroit Lions.
“So number one, the good thing about him coming here is that he does have experience,” Nagy said on Thursday. “Number two, he’s mentally strong, so he’s always prepared, knowing that he’s that guy at any moment that can go in there. And then the third part, too, is Coach (Andy) Heck does a great job of being able to rotate guys in practice. And so you throw all those three together, and then all of a sudden you get kind of a short notice, quick deal that, ‘Hey, you’re going to start and play against one of the best defensive ends in the game.’ What a credit to him.”
Chiefs OT Jaylon Moore Week 6 Quick Facts
Moore started his first game at left tackle for Kansas City in Week 6 vs. the Detroit Lions. He played 64 total snaps on offense and five snaps on special teams, allowing three total pressures and one sack in the process.
We’ll see what the future holds for Simmons, but Moore will be the one protecting Patrick Mahomes’ blindside for at least the immediate future.
