Missouri Governor Mike Parson has granted a limited commutation of former Kansas City Chiefs OLB coach Britt Reid, the son of HC Andy Reid.
Britt Reid pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated in September 2022, facing up to four years in prison as part of his plea deal. He was sentenced to three years in a Missouri Department of Corrections prison for a DWI crash that severely injured five-year-old Ariel Young. The crash occurred on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2021, on the entrance ramp from Stadium Drive to I-435, just days ahead of the team's tilt with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV.
The commutation from Parson comes with several limitations, including house arrest for Britt Reid until Oct. 31, 2025. The other limitations are as follows:
- Employment of at least 30 hours per week.
- Installation of an interlock system on any vehicle he operates.
- Random screening for intoxicating substances.
- Weekly meetings with probation and parole officers.
- Weekly attendance to behavioral counseling and support programs.
- Weekly meetings with a peer support sponsor.
- Completion of 10 hours per month of community service.
- No contact with the victim or victim's family, unless legally required.
- Compliance with all conditions put forth by the parole board.
If Britt violates any of the limitations in Parson's commutation, the parole board is within their rights to revoke it and return him to the Missouri Department of Corrections.
Britt first joined the Chiefs in 2013 as a defensive quality control coach. He worked his way up to defensive line coach (2016-2018) and linebackers/outside linebackers coach (2019-2020). He was placed on administrative leave following the crash in February of 2021, just before his contract with the team elapsed.
