Kansas City Chiefs LB Drue Tranquill makes one thing clear with a powerful message before must-win game vs. Denver
The Chiefs have one thing on their mind before they play the Broncos – winning the AFC West.
The Kansas City Chiefs have one thing on their mind as they enter a must-win game on Sunday against the Denver Broncos on the road. Linebacker Drue Tranquill had a powerful message that perfectly describes what KC’s biggest focus is right now, before looking ahead to anything else.
“It’s huge,” Tranquill said in regard to wanting to win the AFC West. “It’s a culture that was established by guys who were here before me and carried on to this day with the guys that are here. It means a lot. That’s the first thing we talk about, winning the division. We talked about it with the Chargers, but it’s preached here. You want to win the division to set yourself up. It’s an automatic bid to the dance. That’s goal No. 1, and obviously we have to get a win this week against Denver.”
Chiefs can put a major dent in Broncos’ AFC West lead
The Chiefs cannot win the AFC West this week — that’s not what Tranquill’s message is. He’s simply stating how important this game is to achieving their No. 1 goal, which is still attainable, albeit hard, but attainable.
The Broncos are 8-2, but have barely scraped by every single week. Denver is giving the same vibes that the Chiefs gave last season, winning one-score games over bad teams off of what seemed to be miracles. This season, KC hasn’t won all of those close games that they should have. However, they’re not out of the playoff race, as beating the Broncos on Sunday puts them in position to fight for a spot.
The Los Angeles Chargers are second in the division at 7-3, but they’re 3-0 against AFC West opponents. Those two still have to play one another, and have to play the Chiefs one more time as well. If Kansas City wins those games out alone, it puts the Broncos at four losses, and the Chargers at four losses.
If Kansas City then wins out, they’ll have a chance at winning the AFC West, which they’ve done the last nine years in a row. This team controls their own destiny right now, and they know that. When this team has its back against the wall, there is no one better.
