That Kansas City Chiefs initial 2024 roster has been revealed, and second-year wide receiver Nikko Remigio didn't make the cut.
For the second year in a row, Remigio had a strong training camp but came up just short of cracking the 53-man roster. Last year the Chiefs waived him with an injury designation. Some thought he would make the team this time around, but the Chiefs' receiver room is much improved.
Remigio led the Chiefs in receptions during the preseason with seven. He was also their top kickoff and punt return man with six total returns for a combined 175 yards. Special teams coordinator Dave Toub is on record being a big fan of Remigio's, saying that he would "pound the table" to get him on the 53-man roster.
Unfortunately, Toub's endorsement for Remigio wasn't quite enough. The return of JuJu Smith-Schuster could have been the final nail in the coffin for Remigio's chances. With the Chiefs chasing a three-peat, they likely erred on the side of veteran experience rather than going with the young guy.
It would be shocking if K.C. didn't bring Remigio back to the practice squad if he clears waivers. He would likely be the first man up if a Chiefs receiver misses time. Continuing to develop on the practice squad will be good for Remigio as he'll definitely have more opportunities to make somebody's roster.
