The Las Vegas Raiders have finalized their staff. The new era under Klint Kubiak is beginning, as Las Vegas has assembled a solid staff to support the rookie head coach. However, there’s one thing they likely overlooked.
Now, there’s still time to hire one, but with this staff being finalized, you’d like to think this is what they will run with in season. However, there’s no quarterback coach on this staff. That presents a problem, and a pretty big one at that. Everyone knows the Raiders are set to draft Indiana Hoosiers quarterback Fernando Mendoza No. 1 overall. Vegas has been waiting for its franchise QB for some time, and now it will have him, if they draft him.
Sending a rookie quarterback out there, potentially as the starter, is just not a smart idea when he doesn’t have a QB coach. The QB coach is the QB’s right-hand man, and in this situation, Mendoza would not have one. Sure, you can say OC Andrew Janocko would be, but then that takes some of his attention away from the offense because he’s having to coach Mendoza. There is a reason the two positions are usually different on coaching staffs.
Mendoza is already getting drafted to a bad team that’s rebuilding. So, his career may start off rough anyway. But not having a QB coach certainly won’t make things any easier.
