Las Vegas Raiders make another roster move after a chain reaction was started with one other move
The Las Vegas Raiders just signed a wide receiver in Noah Brown, who previously played for the Washington Commanders, Houston Texans, and Dallas Cowboys.
The Las Vegas Raiders made a roster move Sunday night, signing former Washington Commanders and Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Noah Brown.
To make room, they released defensive tackle Benito Jones, a move that became possible after the Raiders recently signed defensive tackle Foley Fatukasi. It was a chain reaction of moves, but the addition of Brown could have real implications for the wide receiver room heading into the final roster cuts.
Brown has a real shot at fighting for the last spot in the receiver room because of his special teams value and the experience he brings. He started his career with the Dallas Cowboys from 2017 to 2022, and in 66 games (18 starts), he recorded 82 catches for 980 yards and 3 touchdowns.
In 2023, he played for the Houston Texans, appearing in 10 games with 7 starts, hauling in 33 catches for 567 yards and 2 touchdowns. In the last two seasons, he suited up for the Washington Commanders, playing 15 games with 13 starts and posting 40 catches for 536 yards and a touchdown.
Noah Brown is not just some nobody
Brown has started 38 of his 91 career games. He has 155 career catches, over 2,000 career receiving yards, and 6 career touchdowns. The Cowboys selected him in the seventh round of the 2017 NFL Draft out of Ohio State as the No. 239 overall pick. He was not far off from being the very last pick in the draft, and he has made a real career for himself despite that.
At 6’2, 225 pounds, Brown brings a size element the Raiders don’t have a lot of in their receiver room. Guys like Jalen Nailor, Tre Tucker, and even Malik Benson are smaller-framed players. Brown offers a bigger frame, but he’s also pretty fast with a strong catch radius. That combination of size and reliability could be exactly what Las Vegas needs as it evaluates the back end of its roster.
What it means for the defensive line
The Raiders released Benito Jones, a player they signed this offseason after the draft when they saw how thin their defensive line depth looked. But after signing Fatukasi to play nose tackle, they seem to be in a better spot there, or at least better than they were. Jones became expendable once that signing went through.
Brown should get some run in the next preseason game against the Houston Texans, his former team. Joint practices against Houston this week could also show how quickly he integrates into the offense. If he can flash on special teams and show enough in the passing game, that final receiver spot could be his to claim.
