The Las Vegas Raiders took one of the more physically dominant defensive players in this last draft. Tyree Wilson was one of those guys who had a high ceiling and floor.
But he did have an injury history, which is a reason the six teams ahead of the Raiders passed on him. He was also dealing with an injury at the time of the draft, which forced him to miss a ton of the Raiders offseason program.
And you can see it in his play against the Denver Broncos in Week 1.
Raiders' Tyree Wilson is noticeably not in football shape
Let's preface everything by saying do not call him a bust or anything of that nature because Week 1 against the Broncos was Tyree Wilson's first-ever NFL game, and he barely played in the preseason. In Week 3 of the preseason, he played just 13 snaps.
However, he is noticeably out of shape, and it definitely affected his play against the Broncos. He looked gassed at times during the pass rush.
He couldn't put together any moves because he was that tired. It was noticeable and frequently led to big runs on his side or too much time because no pressure was being generated.
That's what training camp is for getting in football shape. He didn't participate in training camp until the week they held joint practices with the San Francisco 49ers.
Wilson will need at least another week of practice and maybe another game before he is in good enough shape to play the majority of the game. And the Raiders will need that from him eventually, as we don't know what is happening with the Chandler Jones situation.
But folks, remember, he still isn't a bust.
Raiders backup given unfair shot at making the roster
The Las Vegas Raiders, like all the other teams, are due to make a change to their roster in a few days. On Tuesday, every team must cut their roster down from 80 to 53 players. Yes, it seems hard, but it's part of the business of the NFL. There will be players cut that […]
