The Las Vegas Raiders drafted Fernando Mendoza as the franchise quarterback and the program’s future. They did so knowing that Tom Brady, their minority owner and the greatest QB of all time, would be a great mentor.

And, it’s safe to say the two have already hit it off a bit. There are reports from media members that the two individuals are much more alike than the average fan might think. Sure, Mendoza is kind of nerdy and goody, socially awkward, some would say, all in a good way. And Brady is a colb blooded killer. But they both have the mindset that they’re going to outwork everyone in the world. No one is going to outwork them or be more prepared—that’s the shared mindset.

However, their first interaction was already Brady correcting Mendoza, but in a good way, of course.

Fernando Mendoza’s first FaceTime with Tom Brady at the NFL Draft Combine

Mendoza: “Oh shoot! What’s up, Mr. Brady?! How are you doing?!”
Brady: “You can call me Tom. Mr. Brady is my dad.”

And that’s the type of guy Mendoza is: he will call everyone Mr. and Mrs., and that’s the type of guy Brady is: he wants Mendoza, someone he’s about to get really close with, to just call him by his first name. Straight to the point, no BS.

Mendoza won’t be the starter right away. That job is Kirk Cousins to lose. However, having a guy like Cousins in the room to help groom and mentor him is key. And then you have the greatest to ever do it up in the front office, you could say, helping him out, too. The Raiders have it all figured out. Now, they just have to develop their guy, and part of that is sitting him behind a veteran quarterback.
