The Detroit Lions have wrapped up the 2025 NFL Draft and have moved onto the mad scramble for undrafted free agents. They found one of their priority signings in Syracuse wide receiver Jackson Meeks.

Meeks just so happens to be the nephew of former Lions edge rusher Za'Darius Smith. A guy that Lions fans are desperately hoping their team can get back.

As it stands, the Lions have maintained contact with Smith and his agent, but have not talked in recent weeks. We'll see where that one goes in the end.

As for Meeks, the Lions are signing him to a nice-sized priority deal with some bonuses. He's coming off a year at Syracuse in which he got a chance to play for the first time in college after transferring from Georgia and lit it up with 78 receptions for 1,021 yards and seven touchdowns.

The Athletic's Dane Brugler had Meeks ranked as his 48th receiver his his scouting guide, The Beast. Here's what he had to say about him.

"A three-star recruit, he was hoping to play in the SEC and committed to Georgia within a week of being offered his senior season. After three years (and two national championships) as a backup, Meeks entered the transfer portal and found a friendly face in former Georgia assistant Fran Brown, who took over as the Syracuse head coach in 2024. With fellow transfer Kyle McCord at quarterback, Meeks eclipsed 1,000 yards receiving in 2024.

He isn’t a polished separator in his routes, but he is physical to the football to pluck and finish (No. 2 in the FBS in 2024 with 21 contested catches). His body strength shows mid-route, over the middle and after the catch (Brown: “He’s a dog.”). Overall, Meeks isn’t a burner, which will limit his role at the next level, but he plays with the competitive juices, decisive movements and ball skills to be a chain-moving option.":
