Chargers DL Teair Tart finds himself in familiar trouble with the NFL following incident in Week 6 matchup vs. Dolphins
Tart needs to keep his emotions under control.
Teair Tart is having an excellent season for the Los Angeles Chargers.
He ranks No. 1 against the run among all defensive tackles with a 90.2 grade from Pro Football Focus. Tart is a powerful player who plays with a high motor, chasing down ball carries and quarterbacks. However, sometimes his emotions can get the best of him.
Teair Tart fined by NFL for late hit on Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa
The Chargers got back on the winning track last week with a 29-27 win over Miami following a two-game skid, but for Tart, it came with a price. Midway though the fourth quarter, Tart was flagged for hitting Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa well after he threw a pass.
The NFL has fined Tart $17,389 for his late hit on Tagovailoa. The Dolphins cashed in for a touchdown on that drive en route to a comeback after being down 26-13, but Los Angeles was able to fend them off by converting a field goal on its final drive with just five seconds left in the game.
This is the second time Tart has been fined this season. During the Chargers’ Week 1 win over the Kansas City Chiefs, he struck tight end Travis Kelce in the face with an open-handed slap. Tart was fined $12,172 for the incident.
In L.A.’s Week 2 win over the Las Vegas Raiders, Tart got away with one against quarterback Geno Smith, as he knocked Smith to the ground multiple moments after releasing the ball.
Fortunately for the Chargers, they won during all three of these incidents with Tart. However, if he continues on making these poor decisions, it could end up costing them. In a year when the AFC West is as much up for grabs as it has been in a long time, this is an unneeded problem that could turn into a distraction.
