Latest news on Miami EDGE Rueben Bain Jr. could cause Los Angeles Rams to drop coveted prospect ahead of 2026 NFL Draft
2026 NFL Draft prospect Rueben Bain Jr has suddenly become involved in a massive story, and it could be cause for the Los Angeles Rams to look elsewhere.
The latest news surrounding Miami EDGE Rueben Bain Jr. raises questions about how NFL teams will weigh a suddenly concerning off-the-field incident when the 2026 NFL Draft comes around.
On Sunday, Ollie Connolly from Read Optional reported Bain Jr. “was cited for careless driving after a 2024 crash that left a passenger in a coma.” The passenger died three months later. According to an additional report from Outkick’s Trey Wallace, Bain Jr. was also cited for reckless driving in 2025. Both cases were ultimately dismissed.
A to Z Sports was able to confirm the latest information on Bain Jr. Additionally, A to Z also spoke with several team sources to get insight on teams’ perspective. For the Los Angeles Rams, this would be a massive red flag. It could even be enough to likely take Bain completely off their draft board.
Los Angeles Rams aren’t keen on off-field incidents
As it stands right now, it’s far too early to know whether or not this will affect Rueben Bain’s draft positioning. According to our A to Z reports, some teams have “flipped his card over” essentially removing him from the board.
While I can’t confirm or deny one of those teams is the Los Angeles Rams, I feel pretty strongly that the Rams would be unlikely to keep Bain high on their boards because of it. For years, the Rams have prioritized high character prospects out of the draft, and have benefitted from that approach.
A panic selection of Stetson Bennett aside, the Rams just don’t mess around with any sort of character concern. Part of their intensive pre-scout process is identifying character fits. Traditionally, they’ve valued prospects without a lot of off-field incidents. The recent saga with Puka Nacua is the first incident in some time regarding a player the Rams have drafted. That’s no coincidence.
Only the Rams know how they grade Bain internally. However, if they know about this, I feel confident that they would likely be looking elsewhere, even if they do need an EDGE rusher. If Bain falls, they could take advantage by moving down with a team that does feel more comfortable, however.
