Dolphins defender delivers his own key injury update after scary moment at camp — and saves fans from a sleepless night
“Y’all chill out…just a bruise”
The conversation about a successful season in South Florida for the Miami Dolphins in 2025 usually starts with a short-list of names and the caveat of “if they can stay healthy”. The top name on that list is, obviously, Tua Tagovailoa, the team’s starting quarterback. But the other names on the list, as former Dolphins offensive tackle Terron Armstead outlined this offseason, include pass rushers Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips.
The combination of Phillips and Chubb played in just three and a half games in 2024, all by Phillips before he took friendly-fire from Jordan Poyer and partially tore his ACL. The Dolphins have not seen the pair together on the field since Black Friday of 2023.
Phillips gave Dolphins fans a good scare at training camp on Saturday, spending some time on the ground and having the training staff inspecting his left knee area before walking off the practice field. Phillips was kind enough to give fans an update of his own once practice wrapped up and saved Miami fans from a sleepless night.
Jaelan Phillips provides a relieving update after injury scare
Exhale, Dolphins fans. Phillips was kind enough to give fans an update instead of forcing them to wait for head coach Mike McDaniel to speak tomorrow at his scheduled pre-practice press availability. It’s been a tough stretch for Miami to open camp with health, as it has been for just about every team in the NFL thus far this summer. Injuries are an inevitability and that’s been no exception for the Dolphins.
Miami has already lost veteran cornerbacks Kader Kohou and Artie Burns to season-ending injuries in the first two weeks of training camp. Losing Phillips for any extended period of time would have been a brutal punch for the Dolphins. For now, it’s cause to take a deep breath and relax. The football gods are certainly only getting started dishing out injuries for all 32 teams this season, but Miami appears to have been spared the worst on this day.
And a very sincere ‘thank you’ is owed to Phillips for making sure we know it.
