Dolphins take the next step with half of their general manager candidates, announce four in-person interviews
Miami is taking the next step with several of their GM candidates this week.
The Miami Dolphins are working through the “getting to know you” phase with some of the league’s next leaders in front office work. Miami is angling to fill their general manager position, a post which has been vacant since the team parted ways with Chris Grier midway through the 2025 season. In the last 48 hours, the Dolphins have vetted eight candidates for the position.
It seems as though half of those men have made the needed impression to meet in person. Miami has officially scheduled four in-person interviews, as announced on their team site.

The four names advancing to the next round of interviews (at least for now) offer a mixed bag of experiences:
– Chargers assistant general manager Chad Alexander
– Packers VP of Player Personnel Jon-Eric Sullivan
– 49ers Director of Football & Scouting Operations Josh Williams
– Dolphins interim general manager Champ Kelly
Kelly has been holding the post in Miami for the last two months and change; he was a late addition to the Dolphins’ front office this past spring after serving several years in a leadership role with the Raiders. Kelly has worked hand-in-hand with head coach Mike McDaniel and executive Brandon Shore to close the 2025 season — which included several churning roster spots on the 53-man roster and a facilitated trade of EDGE Jaelan Phillips ahead of the trade deadline.
Williams reportedly has a strong relationship with McDaniel, so it is not a surprise to see him advance to the next round. The Dolphins have not confirmed or denied McDaniel’s future as the head coach of the team, but he is under contract and spoke candidly on Monday about the need for a healthy, trusting relationship between the powers that be running the show. Williams is ahead of the pack in this regard in the scenarios in which McDaniel stays on with the team.
Sullivan is, in my humble opinion on the outside looking in, the most attractive overall candidate. The Dolphins are reportedly seeking a scout and team-builder to fill their general manager vacancy. Sullivan comes from a Packers organization that has bred countless scouts and future general managers going back to the 1990s. He’s been in a leadership role since 2022 and been schooled by the greats in Green Bay.
And then there’s Chad Alexander — the late addition to the pack who has ties to the Baltimore Ravens organization. He’s currently in Los Angeles with the Chargers but this interview is notable because of the Ravens’ recent split with John Harbaugh, who left the Ravens after 18 years and 180 regular season wins. Harbaugh is in high demand and the reporting around Miami’s interest has been inconsistent in the last 24 hours. But Dolphins owner Stephen Ross was well documented in his prior interest in Harbaugh’s brother, Jim, in the past. This serves as some concrete evidence that Miami is, at the very least, considering a power play with Alexanders’ two decades in Baltimore.
