One of the Miami Dolphins’ GOATs appears to be buying what the franchise’s new regime is selling
Miami Dolphins legend Jason Taylor knows what it takes to thrive in the NFL. He seems to be buying the direction of this new regime.
The Miami Dolphins have spent this offseason doing the right thing for the future. It hasn’t necessarily been an “easy” process. But it has absolutely been necessary — given just how tight to the ceiling the last iteration of the team was.
The team’s new leadership, with general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and head coach Jeff Hafley, haven’t shied away from the process they are undertaking. They also haven’t shied away from connecting with other football minds in South Florida. We’ve seen them head down to the Florida Keys and meet with former Dolphins head coach Jimmy Johnson. They’ve also connected with former Miami Dolphins legend Jason Taylor. Taylor recently shared some of his thoughts on this new regime in South Florida — and it sounds like he’s buying what has been a deliberate approach from the Dolphins.

“They reached out, we had a chance to sit down and spend some time together and just talk. They’re not asking for advice from me, I’m more soaking up stuff they’re saying than they are from me. They had some tough decisions to make…sometimes you have to take a couple steps backwards in order to go forward. You know, it’s important to have the right guys. Not the best players — it’s about having the best people, the best players for that organization. For that culture, at that time on the bus. Sometimes you gotta kick some people’s asses off the bus in order to move forward.”

Taylor knows all about what it takes to be not only a successful NFL player, but a first-ballot Hall of Fame inductee. He also knows plenty about helping to carve and forge a culture, too, as he’s taken on his latest endeavor. He’s been coaching for nearly a decade now, both at high school powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas and the University of Miami. Taylor’s been with the Hurricanes since 2022. The Canes went from a 5-win team playing for the National Championship in 2025.
Taylor’s been through it on both sides of the fence, as a player and a coach. Taylor states during his interview that Miami’s leadership didn’t necessarily sit down with him to ask questions, his perspective here should still be considered meaningful.
The Miami Dolphins are, obviously, banking on having the right people on the proverbial bus. This season will go a long way in providing some much-needed clarity on future building blocks for this newest build. And as we work towards the season, it is worth remembering Taylor’s words: ‘it’s important to have the right guys’. That’s what this season is all about. The good news? Taylor thinks they’re on the right track.
