Alright, football fans, here we are at the halfway point of the 2024 NFL campaign and it's time to take a look at some predictions as to who could win the big awards this season. Before the season started we made some predictions, let's take a quick look at those and then see if any of them hold up in the midseason predictions.

Predictions made ahead of the season:

  • Assistant Coach of the Year: Ben Johnson
  • Coach of the Year: Raheem Morris
  • Comeback Player of the Year: Joe Burrow
  • Defensive Rookie of the Year: Laitu Latu
  • Offensive Rookie of the Year: Caleb Williams
  • Defensive Player of the Year: Maxx Crsoby
  • Offensive Player of the Year: Tyreek Hill
  • MVP: Jared Goff

Ok yeah, I see a lot of things wrong there. Let's take a look at the midseason predictions:

Assistant Coach of the Year: Kliff Kingsbury

Ben Johnson is incredible at his job and everyone knows that, but this award usually goes to the guy that turns things around and Kingsbury has more than done that in Washington. This offense has been so much better and Jayden Daniels is taking to the league quite well. It’s Kingsbury showing that he never should have been a head coach in this league, but that he always should have been an OC. We’ll soon see which team decides to hire him anyways after this season.

Coach of the Year: Mike Tomlin

This guy is putting on a coaching clinic for the world to see. It doesn’t matter who he has on that field, he is going to fashion a playoff team out of them one way or another. Everyone thought he was crazy to switch to Russell Wilson after a few weeks of Justin Fields and now Russ is having his best season since the Obama administration. Tomlin is a mad genius and there is just no end to him finding a way into the playoffs.

Comeback Player of the Year: Joe Burrow

The only prediction that stays the same. While the Bengals are bad right now, Burrow is anything but. He is killing it at the moment and leads the league in passing yards and touchdowns. If that Bengals defense wasn’t so bad, who knows where this team would be.

Defensive Rookie of the Year: Jared Verse

Verse has been great for the Rams. He came right in and took up a starting spot and now he’s showing that he can be the cornerstone of a very young and promising defensive line. He has 4.5 sacks and 11 tackles for losses. Verse is putting on a really good showing that might have some teams wishing they had picked a defensive player earlier in the draft.

Offensive Rookie of the Year: Jayden Daniels

A complete no brainer here. Daniels hit the ground running and is a big reason the Commanders went from one of the worst teams in football to a team that’s going to make the playoffs this season. Daniels has been sharp and has shown he can use his feet too. The Commanders are on a losing streak, but that likely won’t stick. This kid is going to be really good someday.

Defensive Player of the Year: Kerby Joseph

This award is usually the Edge Rusher of the Year award, but none of the three guys that usually get it are having the seasons we’re used to them having. Joseph, on the other hand, is having an incredible season. He’s been a lockdown safety this year and quarterbacks are afraid to throw it his way. That’s because when they do it gets picked. He’s been targeted 20 times and leads the league with seven interceptions. He’s also PFF’s fifth highest graded defensive player with a 91.4 grade. He’s that guy.

Offensive Player of the Year: Derrick Henry

This cat just refuses to age and be bad. Every running back that hits that 30-year mark almost always crumbles into dust and is never seen again. Henry somehow just gets better. Maybe it’s because he works out and conditions like an otherworldly being. He currently leads the league in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight for him.

NFL MVP: Jared Goff

Look, its really simple, The NFL almost exclusively gives this award out to the quarterback of one of the number one seeded teams. So it’s down to Goff and Mahomes and Goff is playing way better than Mahomes this year.

By the way, Goff wouldn't get this just because the Lions are good. He'd get it becasue he's one of the main reasons the Lions are good. Goff is having the best season of his entire career right now and if you take that pesky five interception game away, he's been deadly accurate. Even with it he's still completing 73% of his passes and has a passer rating of 112.1. Plus the story here is just too good right?
