Minnesota Vikings could strike a trade during the NFL Draft with a player everyone expects, and another they wouldn’t

The NFL Draft is only a day away, and the Minnesota Vikings are one of the most interesting teams outside of the top 10.

The consensus is leaning toward Oregon Ducks safety Dillon Thieneman being the selection at 18th overall, but it’s far from certain. It can’t be written in stone, as the Vikings’ needs are expansive beyond replacing Harrison Smith.

The reason why the Vikings are being so heavily discussed isn’t just what happens at 18th overall; it’s also rooted in a potential Jonathan Greenard trade.

Jonathan Greenard isn’t the only Vikings player who could be traded

It feels somewhat certain, with how the steam has been building, that Greenard will be traded, likely to the Philadelphia Eagles. A trade has been discussed for the better part of the last six weeks. The price tag is likely going to be a second-round pick with a potential sweetener in there.

If the Vikings end up taking the Eagles up on a trade, it would create another hole on the roster, but they will have more draft capital to replace him and fill other holes

While Greenard has been getting the most attention, there are two other Vikings who could be on the move with the right offer: right tackle Brian O’Neill and wide receiver Jordan Addison.

It’s pure speculation on both parties, but they both need extensions to stay with the team long-term. While the Vikings have budgeted for both players to receive said extensions, both players needing them could become an issue. Either one potentially being traded isn’t likely, but it’s certainly not out of the question with how the franchise needs more youth and overall depth.

How the first round shakes out could determine the future for either player, but especially O’Neill if it ends up being an offensive tackle. Now, there isn’t any steam or sourcing behind the likelihood of either player being traded, but it can’t be ruled out until they have extensions signed.

This weekend is going to be a wild one for the Vikings.
