FOXBORO, Mass. — Mac Jones is looking to bounce back after a disappointing season in 2022, and much of that will come down who the New England Patriots have on offense.
However, one thing that hasn't become clear is if the Patriots have a No. 1 receiver on the roster, and JuJu Smith-Schuster weighed in.
“I think all of our guys can be number one receivers. I think everyone that we put in that huddle in that position can all go out there and make plays,” Smith-Schuster said. “Just because they signed me to a three-year deal and I’m a new receiver doesn’t mean I’m the number one receiver. I think DeVante Parker is arguably the number one receiver. I think Kendrick Bourne is a number one receiver. I think I can be a number one receiver.”
Coming off a Super Bowl championship, Smith-Schuster signed with the Patriots and his connection with Jones is already on full display. Jones connected with Smith-Schuster in the end zone on Wednesday, with the receiver getting two feet down before falling out of bounds.
And to top it all off, Jones came over to celebrate with Smith-Schuster, showing off a little dance.
“Honestly Mac pulls up and we just make up new dances as we go. And that was just one of many,” Smith Schuster said. “That dude, he’s a spark in our offense. It starts with him and we kind of just all feed off it. And then once that’s “That dude, he’s a spark in our offense. It starts with him and we kind of just all feed off it. And then once that’s going, the O-Line, to the running backs, the receivers, the tight ends, we’re all just pouring in. And when he’s having fun, we’re having fun. The confidence level is just threw the roof.”
However, Jones also connected with DeVante Parker in the end zone on Wednesday, which bodes well for the offense.
The more weapons for Jones, the better.
“At the end of the day, you have three receivers on the field. You have two receivers on the field. Whoever gets the ball, I know they’re going to make their plays and their opportunities. I’m not really too big into who’s one, who’s two, who’s three. I’m into about who’s on that field and who can make plays. And like I said, all those guys that we can put in, Tyquan, make plays. So it doesn’t really matter.”
