How do some in American show their patriotism on the Fourth of July?
The Answer: Hot Dogs.
One of the most popular traditions on Independence Day is the Nathan's Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest, with Joey Chestnut looking to defend his title.
And, while these players might not be able to go head-to-head with the champion, here are three New England Patriots players who could have a strong chance to win a hot dog eating contest.
1. David Andrews
In an interview with Good Morning Football in May, David Andrews spoke about the Patriots upcoming trip to Frankfurt, Germany in Week 10 for a matchup against the Indianapolis Colts and was clear about one of the things he is most excited for.
"I know they make good sausages in Frankfurt," Andrew said. "I consider myself kind of a grill guy. Like to throw some meats on the grill, so I'll be the judge on these sausages."
So this self-proclaimed "grill guy", seems to be the perfect fit for a hot dog eating competition. And while it might not come up to par with a sausage from Frankfurt, what's stopping Andrews from enjoying a few hot dogs while also picking up a win in a Fourth of July tradition.
So it's pretty clear that the center likes to have a bit of fun, proving why he'd give the others a run for their money.
2. Christian Barmore
Christian Barmore is apparently known across the team for his bad eating habits, so scarfing tons of hot dogs would be no problem.
In a locker room survey done by The Athletic in Oct. 2022, Barmore voted from himself when asked about who is the least-healthy eater on the team.
"Every day I eat a cheat meal. I ain’t got no plan with it. Everybody can’t do what I can (with) eating," Barmore said to The Athletic's Chad Graff. "I like it all, man. They told me to stay away from the pancakes, but I can’t stay away from the pancakes."
While he didn't specifically mention hot dogs, the 6-foot-4, 310 pound defensive tackle did admit he is not picky when it comes to food making him perfect for this competition.
3. Matthew Judon
One thing is very clear about Matthew Judon: he likes to have fun.
And what's more fun than taking part in a longstanding Fourth of July tradition?
While he would have some tough competition in David Andrews and Christian Barmore, Judon is a natural born competitor and would surely want the bragging rights that come with a win.
