Adam Schefter reveals surprising Saints trade candidate who may get dealt during 2026 NFL Draft

The New Orleans Saints currently hold the eighth overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. During the three-day process, could they actually trade away a quarterback to improve their overall capital for this year or next? It may be more likely than people think right now.

The 2026 NFL Draft is right around the corner. Mickey Loomis and co. will make plenty of picks for the New Orleans Saints, but could a trade involving a notable player also be on the table?

One insider thinks there may be interest from other teams regarding a young Saints quarterback.

Spencer Rattler named as potential trade candidate

In an intel piece from NFL insider Adam Schefter, he named Saints backup QB Spencer Rattler as a player who could be dealt during this week’s draft.

A team may be interested in Rattler after seeing him show glimpses of impressive play as the team’s starter at times over the past two years.

“Those who could gain interest include Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr., Titans quarterback Will Levis, Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler, Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts Sr., Colts cornerback Kenny Moore II, Giants edge Kayvon Thibodeaux, Bills wide receiver Keon Coleman and 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, among others.” — Adam Schefter

Rattler completed nearly 68% of his passes in 2025. His passer rating also increased from 70.4 to 86.5 between 2024 and 2025. He lacked some aggressiveness, though, and at times, passed up opportunities to push the ball downfield.

Once New Orleans saw that a postseason run was probably out of reach, they turned to the rookie option in Tyler Shough.

The case for trading Rattler this offseason

New Orleans did sign QB Zach Wilson, a former first-round pick, earlier this offseason. While that doesn’t push Rattler out the door, it does allow the Saints to move him if they feel an offer is worth it to move on.

Not to mention, it was no secret that Rattler was naturally a bit bummed to lose the starting nod for Kellen Moore’s team last season. While there wasn’t any sort of reported tension between him and Shough, Rattler is a competitor.

He wants to prove himself if given another opportunity, so the Saints may decide that it would be smarter for him to be elsewhere than in their QB room. If New Orleans did deal away Rattler, signing another veteran option to compete for the backup job with Wilson seems smart.

As far as compensation goes, a late day three pick going to the Saints would be the hope in an exchange for Rattler. He could also be included as some value in a trade up scenario for Kellen Moore’s team.
