Two aspects of football have haunted the New Orleans Saints this season.

Turnovers and penalties. In their wins, they have avoided those two issues. In their loss, they absolutely plague them.

Today against the 49ers, the Saints got off to a rough start. On their first drive, Alvin Kamara fumbled. San Francisco recovered in Saints' territory.

The offense had gotten some momentum, and the turnover took that away immediately. Those are the types of turnovers that New Orleans just cannot afford this season.

Their offense is not built to make large comebacks, and early turnovers can force that.

Luckily, their defense stepped up on the 49ers' drive. They held SF to just a field goal.

Turnovers and penalties will make the difference in today's game for the Saints. That has been the case for them all year long because they are a very talented squad.

Clean football is their only way to climb back into playoff contention.
