The New Orleans Saints are making some sweeping changes along their staff.

Of course, they just traded former head coach Sean Payton. He was never coming back to coach the Saints, but now they have compensation for him.

Additionally, their defensive staff is going to look quite different next season. Co-defensive coordinator/defensive line coach Ryan Nielsen left to be the defensive coordinator of the Atlanta Falcons.

Yesterday, the Saints parted ways with their other co-defensive coordinator in Kris Richard. He was the defensive backs coach as well.

Clearly, Dennis Allen is planning to swap up some things on the defensive side of the ball. It is a bit of a peculiar decision as the defense was the strong side of the ball last season.

The offense struggled often, but the Saints only moved on from one coach, Dan Roushar. He coached tight ends and was the run game coordinator for New Orleans.

Some fans wanted them to move on from offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael Jr., but they aren't. New Orleans believes in the continuity working out for the offense – regardless of the outcomes from this past season. We'll see how that works out for them.

Now, it sounds like the Saints are going to have a brand new defensive staff around Dennis Allen.

Allen will still call the plays.

That being said, the staff will be a bit of an overhaul during the time of year where many teams are looking for positional coaches and coordinators. The assistant pool is changing daily.

The Saints are looking for three defensive assistants.
