Brian Burns’ Pro Bowl selection reveals an an uncomfortable truth about the current state of the Giants’ roster in 2025
The New York Giants have one player going to the Pro Bowl with Brian Burns.
The 2025 season has not gone as many New York Giants fans would have hoped. Two wins through 15 games are underwhelming.
Many would not expect a team with such poor performance to have a representative at the Pro Bowl or on the All-Pro teams. However, the Giants do have one player worthy of that recognition.
Despite a disappointing season, the Giants will have a representative at the 2025 Pro Bowl. Star pass rusher Brian Burns was announced as a starter for the event on Tuesday, with the full roster being revealed.
Giants’ Brian Burns earns third Pro Bowl
With volatile play from many of the Giants’ starters and significant injuries, Burns has remained the most consistent. Each game, he’s been incredibly disruptive and productive. He’s delivered high-effort performances despite the season lacking an achievable goal.
Through 15 games, Burns has totalled 15 sacks and 20 TFLS. Burns’ 15 sacks in most seasons would be at the top of the league, but Myles Garrett’s elite 22 sack season has overshadowed that. He’s also generated 22 quarterback hurries and 12 QB hits. His success has also boosted the production of his teammates, Kayvon Thibodeaux and Abdul Carter.
This is now Burns’ third Pro Bowl in his seven-year NFL career, with this being the first one he’s earned with the New York Giants. His previous Pro Bowls came in 2021 and 2022 with the Carolina Panthers.
Burns has proven he will be a key foundational piece for the franchise’s future. At just 27 years old, Burns has gotten better every season in the NFL and has become a force to be reckoned with coming off the edge.
If the 2026 NFL Draft is approached correctly, then the Giants’ defense can take a massive leap forward. It is difficult for a franchise to find a pass rusher capable of producing 15 sacks. Not to mention having a second developing pass rusher who could produce similar numbers, as they have with Carter.
While the news that Burns earned Pro Bowl recognition is positive, it is sobering to realize the team had only one rep. The Giants are one of seven teams to have a singular Pro Bowler. Some unexpected teams that had more Pro Bowlers than them include the Cleveland Browns, the Tennessee Titans, the Las Vegas Raiders, the Atlanta Falcons, and the Arizona Cardinals. They successfully avoided the no Pro Bowler group, which features the Minnesota Vikings, New York Jets, and New Orleans Saints.
Hopefully, next season looks much different, but congratulations to Burns for receiving this honor.
