New York Giants player suffers injury that has nothing to do with football but will be fine for training camp
NFL players have to treat their bodies with the utmost respect in order to have successful careers and that’s why the latest injury news involving one Giants player is unfortunate. Everything will be fine in the long run, though.
NFL players can suffer an injury at any time on the football field.
The same goes for off the field, as well. And that’s not just limited to football players – society as a whole has to endure it, too.
New York Giants linebacker Cam Jones recently suffered an injury while moving, according to coach John Harbaugh. It forced him to miss some practice time, which is a tough break for the newly-acquired free agent.
“Cam Jones had an incident moving his house up here. He should be fine in like a
week,” Harbaugh told reporters. He was moving his boxes and took a step wrong (and) he rolled his ankle or something.”
Cam Jones could be an underrated player for the Giants in 2026
It’s good that Jones’ injury is short-term and that he’ll be ready for training camp, because he has all the makings to be an impactful, yet underrated player for the Giants.
Jones has made his hay on special teams over the first three years of his career, logging 737 total snaps with the Kansas City Chiefs and New York Jets. If you’re into Pro Football Focus grades, he’s been one of the top-graded special teams players in each season, so far, and he led the Chiefs special teams with seven tackles in 2024.
Cam Jones’ special teams grades over the last three seasons
Jones has earned everything that’s been given to him after going undrafted in 2023. Below are his PFF grades on special teams and where he ranked, since:
- 2023: 74.5 (5th)
- 2024: 91.2 (2nd)
- 2025: 81.2 (4th)
Jones is currently one of seven inside/off-ball linebackers on the Giants’ roster. That’s a very crowded room and three of the top spots are already held down by Arvell Reese, Tremaine Edmunds, and Micah McFadden. Teams usually don’t carry more than four inside ‘backers on the 53-man roster, so that could very well leave four guys battling for one job.
Well, Jones’ special teams prowess should actually give him the advantage in that race. A team isn’t going to deploy four linebackers at once, so the guy manning the LB4 position needs to have special teams ability.
Jones has just that. We’ll see if it’s enough to make the cut when it’s all said and done.
