The New York Jets got a massive injury scare on Monday morning but appear to have avoided all the worst-case scenarios.
The New York Jets endured the absolute worst kind of injury scare on Monday morning. The kind with the phrase that no one wants to hear: “non-contact injury.”
The victim? Handsomely paid and recently extended running back Breece Hall. Reports came out of Jets training camp that Hall went down without contact, but the news quickly shifted into a more favorable tone. Jets head coach Aaron Glenn shared after practice that Hall suffered a strained groin.
New York Jets running back Breece Hall endures non-contact injury but avoids all the worst case scenarios
Talk about a sigh of relief. Hall, of course, got a handsome extension this offseason. The goal was in keeping Hall in the mix with the Jets was to hopefully provide a level of consistency to the offense as the featured back. Any time you hear the “non-contact” descriptor on an injury, you can’t help but fear for the worst.
While Hall’s injury still needs to be sorted out, this is a much more favorable development than some of the other alternatives. That deserves a sigh of relief as the Jets continue to churn towards the start of the regular season.
In the meantime, it equates to more work for Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis in the backfield. If there’s a silver lining to a minor injury for Allen, it’s that he’s well-established as a featured runner — and these young backs could certainly use the added reps. There’s still testing to be done and clarity needed. But, for now, a sigh of relief is in order after seeing Hall go down in a heap on his own.
