Eagles make two decisions that may predict exactly what happens with star WR A.J. Brown

The Philadelphia Eagles made a trade on Friday that may give a hint to what will happen with WR A.J. Brown in the coming months. Here’s the latest.

Every move going forward this offseason for the Philadelphia Eagles will cause people to draw lines toward star wide receiver A.J. Brown. Amid trade rumors, reports, and everything in between, his situation remains fluid, and the Birds could choose to trade him later in the offseason.

Philly’s latest move could directly hint at Brown’s future with the team, though.

Eagles acquire wide receiver via trade

Philly made an impact move today when they acquired WR Dontayvion Wicks from the Green Bay Packers. It wasn’t the cheapest move in the world ever, as Philadelphia sent two draft picks to GB,  a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick.

This move probably moves Hollywood down a spot on the depth chart, currently to the WR4 spot with Brown still in the fold. It is also worth noting that Wicks has a connection to new Eagles OC Sean Mannion, since he came from the Packers coaching staff.

Dontayvion Wicks’ extension

I think Wicks’ contract extension is actually an even bigger sign that an A.J. Brown could be on the horizon after the draft. There are not many “Wr3” options in the NFL who garner $12.5 million per year. That’s not the price for that role in an offense usually.

That’s the price tag on Wicks’ extension with Philly that will keep him through 2027, according to Ian Rapoport.

“The combination of picks and $$ in contract extension signals that the Eagles have big plans for Wicks. It’s the biggest investment in draft capital since trading for Jahan Dotson and biggest investment in money since A.J. Brown/DeVonta Smith.” — Zach Berman

If the Eagles are actually planning to keep Brown, they are investing quite a bit in their WR depth. That’s not particularly like them under general manager Howie Roseman in recent years.

Not to mention, there’s been reported interest in multiple day one/day two WR prospects in this class from Philly. They are not monitoring those players for no reason. Let’s see what they decide and whether or not Brown ends up in a new uniform by the middle of June.
