The Pittsburgh Steelers are officially reeling after back-to-back losses. The problem is, it hasn’t been the offense that has disappointed. It’s one of the league’s highest-paid defenses that has been a major issue for Pittsburgh.

Well, things won’t be getting any easier this week, as the league’s highest-rated offense is coming to town. The Indianapolis Colts have tormented nearly every defense they’ve faced, meaning the Steelers’ best course of action on Sunday will be to win a barn burner.

It just so happens that the defense, but especially the corner position, happens to be a weakness for the Colts. To learn more about how Aaron Rodgers and DK Metcalf can win the game for Pittsburgh, and gain more insight, I previewed Sunday’s game with Destin Adams of A to Z Sports Indianapolis.

What has been the secret to Indy’s offensive success?

“My answer being a team effort sounds like a cop-out, but hear me out. The Colts’ offense is a top 5 rushing and passing attack in the NFL, and I don’t think any one person is the sole reason. The run game has seen Jonathan Taylor play the best ball of his career, and he deserves his flowers, don’t get me wrong. But the Colts’ offensive line has looked like the best run blocking group in the NFL, and that goes beyond just the offensive line, with TEs Tyler Warren and Mo Alie-Cox also moving defenders off the line.”

“The Colts’ pass game is led by Daniel Jones, who has revived his NFL career in Indianapolis, but has seen all of their starting pass catchers step up big in 2025. You don’t hear the Colts’ skill positions hyped up often as one of the best in the league because they don’t have an elite WR1 by any means. But the collective play of this group could probably compete with anyone in the league. And let’s not forget head coach Shane Steichen, who has reminded the NFL that he is one of the top play-callers in the NFL. Jones has his limitations at QB, but Steichen has leaned in on Jones’ strengths and has created the highest scoring offense in the league.” – Destin Adams, A to Z Sports Indianapolis

What has been the catalyst behind Daniel Jones’ career revival?

“First and foremost, Jones is playing with a newfound confidence that he didn’t have in New York. I think that failed experience changed his mindset on the position, and he has re-fallen in love with the game of football. After that, I believe Steichen has created a fantastic offensive system around Jones’ strengths. We’ve seen Jones excel in a play-action and RPO-heavy system that allows him to take what the defense gives him, and the offensive line has kept him upright and has had multiple explosive plays this year. It also never hurts a QB to have one of the best running games they can lean on when needed, and Jones has that with Taylor.” – Adams

Where is the weakness on the Colts’ defense?

“The Colts’ defense is a tough case study. They excel in two key areas: keeping opposing teams out of the endzone and forcing turnovers. The Colts allow the sixth-fewest points per game and have the third-most takeaways in the league. Hearing that, you’d think this is one of the best defenses in the NFL. That is where I disagree, though.”

“The Colts allow the ninth-most yards per game and have allowed the third-most passing yards in the league. I think their lack of a second consistent pass rusher in the edge room opposite Laiatu Latu plays a factor in this, but also the team’s CB room being hit hard with injuries. They will be without their star outside CB, Charvarius Ward, who is on IR. He is joined by two others who were expected to start or play key snaps at the position.” – Adams

Final takeaways

The Steelers are looking to avoid a three-game losing streak, which is something that has plagued them every year for the past 7 seasons. As bad as the last two weeks have been, a win against one of the league’s best teams can turn things around in a hurry for Pittsburgh.

Oh, and they have a new trade asset to help with that.
